Services to Individuals

There are so many reasons which bring an individual to this country that it would be impossible in such a short space to list them all. Whatever your motivation is for coming to the United Kingdom, we have extensive experience iin handling all aspects of immigration and nationality law for individuals.

Families

One of the biggest areas of migration is for reasons connected to family relationships. We have handled many cases for husbands and wives, elderly parents or re-uniting children who have been separated from their families here. We appreciate and understand the delicate nature of these relationships, and have been rewarded both by the restoration of the family unit as well as with the happiness it brings.

Employment/Self-Employment

The points-based category of entry, called the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme is now some 4 years old and has proved to be very attractive to individual applicants seeking to establish themselves in the UK in a work-related capacity. It is extremely flexible regarding the manner in which commercial activities can be carried on, and many applicants now look to the Scheme as their preferred means of entry to, or continued stay in, the UK for either employment or the establishment of their business. For more detailed information on this category, please go to our Current Immigration Info page.

Studies

The UK is one of the leading centres for education provision in the world, and the Government has continued to introduce a series of measures intended to attract overseas nationals into choosing the UK for their higher or further education. There have been substantial changes and amendments to the Immigration Rules, including the introduction of a number of specific schemes, which are all intended to allow graduates further opportunities to remain in the UK after their studies. We have had substantial experience of dealing with student applications as well as advising on eligibility for entry to these schemes.

Citizenship

The UK is one of the more forward-looking countries in recognising that an individual may both become a British Citizen as well as retain their previous citizenship. As the Home Secretary himself said in July 1998 "...we recognise that in the modern world, as well as owing an allegiance to the country in which they live, people also retain an affinity to the country of their roots. It is therefore possible to be a citizen of two countries and a good citizen of both". We have wide experience of applications for naturalisation of individuals as British Citizens, both on the basis of residence over 5 years, or after marriage where the period is only 3 years. We also make applications for registration, principally involving children, but also for those with a subsidiary British status. Nationality law is a very complex area, and we have considerable expertise in advising on an individual's entitlements.

Investment

As one of the leading financial centres in the world, it is for obvious reasons that individual investors see London's financial institutions and businesses as the obvious choice in which to invest their funds. Investments over a certain figure bring with them the right to live and work in United Kingdom, and ultimately lead to settlement and (if desired) naturalisation.

Retirement

Retired people whose income exceeds the immigration threshold can apply to live in the United Kingdom and ultimately settle here. This category plays an important part in the unification of extended families.

Other Areas

Other areas of our work for individuals cover family rights arising under European legislation, applications for settlement after long periods of residence in the UK, the admission and continued stay of domestic staff, and regularisation of those whose stay has become irregular, under any published concessions which are periodically announced.
