New Immigration Fees Announced

The government has announced new immigration charges which will fund sweeping changes to border security. Fees for most existing services will stay the same, while increases in line with inflation will be applied to some services. The government is also proposing fees for the new sponsorship system which is a process where employers, schools and other organisations will share responsibility with the government to ensure people follow immigration rules.

New Visa Application Forms

New visa applications forms have been introduced by UK Visas for all overseas applications. From 16th November 2007, the old forms will cease to be accepted. There are a number of new forms and each comes with its own set of Guidance Notes and Information sheets. The Information Sheets are particularly useful in directing applicants to the correct application forms that should be used.

The latest version of the programme was announced on 7 November 2006. There have been various changes to the scheme, most notably changes to how points are awarded and the number of points required.

Changes in Fees for Nationality

Following Parliamentary Approval, new immigration fees were introduced on 2 April 2007 for all those coming to the United Kingdom to work, stay or study.

Work Permits

In May 2007 a new program was announced called the International Graduates Scheme (IGS) which replaces the existing Science and Engineering Graduate Scheme (SEGS) which only allowed students of certain disciplines to stay in the United Kingdom after graduation.

Launch In April 2007 the Border and Immigration Agency was launched. It is a new executive agency of the Home Office.

On 2nd April 2007 new rules were introduced which will require applicants for indefinite leave to remain (settlement) to take the Life in the United Kingdom Test.
